News: Long time no update...
Posted by: Admin on Monday, September 26, 2005 - 08:43 PM
Site News Well, it has been a while since I posted some 'news'. Added a bunch of new tokens - a total of 1443 online. Of all the tokens I have acquired recenly, the best are probably the NY630C, NY630Dc, NY630G, NY630K, and NY630O.

I am still working on the vecturist.com website, which, with any luck, I'll have online soon.

News: new tokens from Iowa
Posted by: Admin on Monday, August 15, 2005 - 11:49 PM
Site News I added about 50 new tokens from Iowa. This means that I have 1351 tokens online!

Not much else new. Heading down to Washington, DC next week for a conference, then down to New York City for a wedding.

News: Yes, I am still alive!
Posted by: Admin on Saturday, July 16, 2005 - 07:51 PM
Site News Yes, I am still alive!

I disabled the forums because I do not have the time to patch up the security holes. Not sure if I will have time to patch them up, and get them online. I'll try though.

I have 1308 Tokens online. Check them out!

Thanks to everyone who has sent me email recently. Not a whole lot new. I had my 250 gig Maxtor drive crash (again). That is why there was downtime for the website. I am looking to buy a new Dell to host this site. Once I do, I'll migrate over to the new system, and try to add some new features.

Sorry - not real talkative tonight. Sitting out on the back porch, having a nice cold one.

News: Not much new...
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 - 09:07 PM
Site News Not a many new tokens recently, although I should have a few dozen arriving soon.

I did add 3 new error tokens from New York City. The first was an unpunched NY630AO, the second was an unpunched NY630AS, and the third was an Off-center Y NY630AS.

I think I still have a few unpunched NY630AP tokens if anyone is interested in trading.

News: 1278 Tokens online
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 - 01:48 AM
Site News Well, I have 1279 Tokens online! I just acquired 2 new error tokens from NYC. One is an unpunched 16mm token, the other is an unpunched 22mm token. I'll try to get scans of them up online sometime this week. Thanks to Steve from NY for these!

I am going to try to start rewriting a lot of this site next week. There is a lot of code clean up that I need to do before I can move the site to it's new home. I probably have a good 2 weeks (80 hours) of work to do before I can move the site to it's new Linux box.

I am still working on the vecturist.com website. I want to put up information about the AVA there.

I was curious, so I checked my google page rank. I currently have a google page rank of 3. The google page rank ranges from 0 through 10. Sites with page rank of 10 include sites like google.com and yahoo.com. I suppose that a page rank of 3 is good considering that I have only had this site online for less than a year!

Well, it is almost 2am, and I probably should get some sleep...

News: site updates
Posted by: Admin on Monday, May 16, 2005 - 10:32 PM
Site News I now have 1249 Tokens Online! I still have a bunch to go too...

I received 78 tokens from Marilynn in Kentucky. None of them are transportation tokens, but there are some coal, tax, arcade, and good-fors. There are a bunch of duplicates that I would be willing to trade. I'll try to scan them in sometime 'soon' for all to enjoy.

I bought a few hundred random tokens from eBay as well. Mostly arcade, carwash, parking, and other misc tokens. At $0.02 each, they were hard to pass up.

Sent a hundred or so tokens out to people in the mail recently - either trading to AVA members, or 'freebies' to my newest exonumist.com members.

Well, that's all for now.

News: Back from vacation
Posted by: Admin on Monday, May 02, 2005 - 10:46 PM
Site News Well, I am back from my vacation. The wife and I spent a week down in NYC, while the boy was off sunning himself in Aruba for spring break. (Somehow I feel as though he got the better vacation.)

While in New York City, we visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The New York Transit Museum. The transit museum is located in an old subway station in Brooklyn. There are old restored subway cars that you can venture into, as well as a wealth of information about the building of the New York subway system. It was actually quite a lot of fun.

We had some very good food while we were down there as well. Most notably: Nocello's, and The Butterfly Grill. Of course, what trip to New York is complete without a stop at Carnegie Deli - home of the world's best corned beef and pastrami.

I added a bunch of new traders and a few new tokens last week. I still have a box of stuff to go through. Rik from dutchtokens.com sent me a few hundred tokens from the Netherlands for my collection.

Unfortunately, because I just got back from a week long vacation, I have piles of things to do at work. So, I probably will not have time to make any updates to the site for a few weeks...

News: A few new tokens, and a few traders...
Posted by: Admin on Thursday, April 07, 2005 - 11:55 PM
Site News I added 8 new tokens, and 2 more traders tonight. Today's tokens thanks to AVA member Ed V.

Heading down to New York City tomorrow after work with the guys. We finally all managed to get permission from the wives/girlfriends to take off for the weekend. It should be a lot of fun, and no, I will not be checking email, so don't waste your time mailing me...;-)

Well, now off to pack for the trip.

News: a few new tokens added, Forums online
Posted by: Admin on Monday, April 04, 2005 - 11:10 PM
Site News 4 more tokens added tonight. Added a nice KY480M (and a few duplicates for the trade list), thanks to Marilyn T. She also sent me 5 other tokens (sales tax, game, and 2 others), which I will try to scan and post up in the forums - perhaps someone can help me identify them, so that I can pay her what they are worth. The other 3 tokens are from Little Falls, Minnesota, thanks again to Dennis P. 7 tokens from the trade list where sent off to Alan (chickengrabber).

At least one of you have noticed that the Forums are back online. A slight snafu with cookies was causing some issues to my Internet Explorer friends. I also fixed the file attachment problem. You can attach up to 4 images to every post.

If there is anything you would like added to this site, please feel free to email me.

It's past 11:00, and I still have a dozen emails to answer. Luckily, I have my good friend Bud Powell and Dos Equis to keep be going.

News: 1169 Tokens online, forums working (again)
Posted by: Admin on Saturday, April 02, 2005 - 07:09 PM
Site News Well, I have 1169 tokens online. Latest trades thanks to AVA members Alan C., Dennis P., and Joe S. I also added a few new traders to my trade list.

I think I have the issues with the forums resolved. This effected all users of Internet Exploder. Firefox users (such as myself), were not effected. I plan to move to different forum software sometime this month. I need to order a few new Dell Computers for the webserver and Forums. I am planning on separating them, and running the exonumist website from one, and the forums from another. Eventually, when I get time, I will do something useful with the vecturist.com domain - for now, there is simply not enough time...:-(

Not much else new. Trying to plan a trip to New York City for next weekend with 'the guys'.

News: 1072 tokens & a new car...
Posted by: Admin on Monday, March 14, 2005 - 10:28 PM
Site News Well, I now have 1072 tokens online! Yawn. I figure it takes me 10 minutes to scan in a token, and enter all of the data into my database. This means that I have spent over 178 hours just scanning tokens, and entering the data here. Hope you folks are enjoying all of my hard work...;-)

So, last week I finally broke down, and bought a new car. I initally was looking at Hondas (Civic and Accord), and Toyotas (Corolla and Camry). While at the Toyota dealership, I spotted the new Scion tC. It was love at first sight. OK, I am exaggerating a little bit here - but, I did buy the car, and really enjoy it. I went to the DMV this morning and got a personalized license plate - a dozen free tokens to whoever can guess my new (7 letter) license plate.

News: 1003 tokens online!
Posted by: Admin on Monday, February 21, 2005 - 11:21 PM
Site News Well, I have over 1000 tokens available for viewing online! I still have about 100 tokens that I still have to enter, but, I almost have my entire token collection online! Its taken me 6 months to get these 1000 tokens online...

I am still having problems with the mail server. This usually occurs when trying to send mail to AOL users. It seems as though the AOL mail server refuses connections from mailservers which run from dynamic IP addresses. This is all part of their spam prevention techniques. Since I run this website from my dynamic IP, they always refuse my mails. I eventually see the mail messages stuck in the queue, and just send them from my personal account.

No music today, but I did finish watching season 4 of Coupling. If you are unfamiliar with Coupling, it is basically a British version of Friends.

Thats all for tonight.

News: Long time no update
Posted by: Admin on Monday, January 31, 2005 - 11:31 PM
Site News I acquired a few new tokens today. I'll try to get to scanning these in sometime this week.

I discovered some new issues with my mail server. It appears that some sites (not to mention names - aol.com), don't allow mail from mail servers that run off of dynamic IP address. I changed the site so that registering no longer requires me to mail you your password. I'll probably change this back once I move to better hosting with a static IP address. Let me know if you have problems registering.

More comcast outages today. Lost internet, cable, and phone. Comcast sucks.

News: New Links, admin pages...
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - 11:02 PM
Site News I added a few new links, and finished up the token image generation routines. Token images now include a copyright notice as well as a few extra 'security features' to prevent those damn leechers from stealing my hard work. I also added a feature so I could easily print thumbnails, and token information to send out to fellow exonumists.

It looks like I am getting about 10 unique hits per day, so somebody must be reading this! If you find this site even remotely interesting, drop me a line - then I won't feel like this whole project is a waste of time.

Site News No new tokens recently. However, I did make a few changes to the website. I modified all of the token images to include a copyright notice. Hopefully, everthing displays nicely.

I spent a few hours messing my new firewall/router. I'll have a brief period of downtime when I swap this one out with my old one.

News: one more token, server reconfiguration
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 - 01:13 AM
Site News Not much new today. I added one new token - an error token from New York City. That's a total of 832 tokens online!

I made a few more minor tweaks throughout the site for the token values for error/counterfeit tokens. I also made some changes to my Apache configuration, mostly because of warnings from Nessus.

Tonights work was made possible by Art Garfunkel.

News: more server downtime, SMTP issues...
Posted by: Admin on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 12:17 AM
Site News So, a few days ago, I finally got the forums installed. I figured that before making them go live again, I would do some basic security testing with Nessus. (For those of you unfamiliar with Nessus, it is a free security scanner. You give it an IP address, and it probes it for known vulnerabilities.) Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time...

I didn't actually discover any vulnerabilities with my host, but, my scanning caused a bunch of other problems.

The scanner tests for thousands of known vulnerabilities in a matter of minutes. As you probably know (from the link on the bottom of all the pages here), I run PostNuke for this site. PostNuke has a nice feature, whereby it tries to notify the admin of potential hack attempts. Well, for a lot of those security vulnerabilities that Nessus checked for, PostNuke sent a warning to my admin account at Exonumist.com. It sent so many emails, that my ISP started refusing the mail connection all together. This of course meant that I had about a thousand emails in my mail server queue. Now here is the real problem - my mail server was not configured properly. It had 2 problems. First of all, it had a retry attempt of 1 minute. This means that every minute, it was trying to send each of these 1000 messages. Oops - now my ISP is probably really pissed. To them, this probably looks like I was sending bulk (i.e. SPAM) emails. The second problem was that when I reinstalled PHP a few days (or weeks - I can't even remember any more) later, I mistyped my email address. Eventually, these 1000 messages hit the 2 day mark (my mail server drops mail if it can't send it for 2 days), and they were returned to 'sender'. Problem is, that I mistyped my domain name, so they were being returned to some other domain. Oops - now, that guys ISP thinks I am sending thousands of bulk emails...

Ugh. I believe I have it all fixed now. For anyone who tried to register in the past few days, I apologize for any inconvenience. If you never got your password in email, let me know. Your confirmation email may have been stuck in the mail queue, which I just deleted when I reconfigured my mail server. To the owner of that other domain I accidentally blasted with emails, my sincere apologies, it was an accident.

OK, so, after spending hours and hours fixing that mail server problem, I actually did some real work. So what's new:

  • Changed the register page - removed that Terms of Service agreement as well as that other stupid document that I am sure nobody read anyway. I also made some changes so that it looks better in other browsers.
  • Fixed the email confirmation text for new users
  • Admin changes to the token pages - now when I view a token, I see a 'quantity' field, showing the total number of those tokens that I own.
  • More C# coding on my data entry tool - working on my data integrity check for my database.

Well, as long as I am pretty much writing a book here, I might as well tell you what else is new.

I just signed up for VoIP service from Packet8. For those of you unfamiliar with VoIP, it is quite simple. It is Voice over Internet Protocol. It is basically telephone service, but over a broadband connection. It has a lot of benefits over a traditional phone. Namely, for less than $20 per month you get unlimited calling anywhere in the United States or Canada. You also get all of the normal telephone features (Caller ID, 3-way calling, call waiting, etc) free! Since it is not regulated by the FCC, there are NO taxes! This is all neat, but the coolest thing is that you can pick what area code (and prefix) you want. I decided to keep my existing number, but they say that it can take up to 4 weeks before I get my existing number transferred over to my VoIP service. In the mean time, they will give me a temporary number in whatever city I choose. I decided to get a number in New York City. I don't actually live in New York, I just thought it would be cool to have a New York telephone number. Technology is so cool.

Well, I suppose that is enough for one night...

News: Server downtime
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, January 05, 2005 - 12:20 AM
Site News Had about 5 minutes of downtime this evening when I upgraded Apache. Let me know if you have any problems.

I made a few more minor tweaks to the site:

  • I removed some of the optional data when registering. The only optional data asked for now is name and website.
  • The forums are almost back online. I have a few more hours worth of testing and tweaking, and I should be able to put them online again. (Unfortunately, tomorrow is the poker night, so I won't make any changes to the site until Thursday.)

This evenings coding was made possible by the wonderful sounds of New York City.

News: a few more tokens online
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, January 04, 2005 - 12:16 AM
Site News A nice member of the AVA sent me 20 tokens in the mail today - 5 of which I didn't have! I put 4 of them up online. One I don't know the catalog number - I should be receiving a catalog supplement soon though, and I will put the token online then. The remainder of the tokens have been added to my tokens for trade page.

I still have a boat load of stuff to add to the site... 24 hours is not nearly enough time in a single day...

News: More minor tweaks
Posted by: Admin on Sunday, January 02, 2005 - 09:59 PM
Site News Nothing really noticeable was added recently. I made a significant number of changes to the back end, but nothing that you should be able to notice. I added a link to a text listing of every token cataloged. This should make it easier for fellow token collectors to determine which tokens I don't have, so they can propose token trades to me. No new tokens acquired this week, but I did manage to scan in about a dozen more tokens out of my 'to-do' pile. I still have a number of tokens that I still need to scan and catalog. This is a long and tedious process, but it keeps me busy. Token collecting is a cool hobby that even my parole officer approves of. (That?s of course a joke ? I?ve never been convicted.)

News: UI tweaks for IE users...
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 11:20 PM
Site News I made a few minor tweaks to the generated html, so that pages are displayed nicer in IE. I am not sure why people actually use Internet Explorer. Especially when Firefox is available for free!!!

I also made a few more changes restricting the image sizes for anonymous users. You now need to register and log in if you want to view full size images of the tokens.

Thats all for tonight. Except for maybe metioning that I beat Jeff in Bubble Hockey, and won our weekly poker tournament.

News: Token Quantity implemented
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 - 02:30 AM
Site News I finally implemented a quantity feature. This allows me to easily determine what tokens I have for trade.

I finished up the changes to my C# database entry tool. This makes modifying my database easy. I now have 3400+ tokens cataloged, and even more tokens in my closet that still need to be scanned and entered. Yawn. I am tired. It's been a long night - luckily, I had Paul Simon to help me get through it.

As you probably noticed (or maybe you didn't), the forums are disabled again. There are a number of security holes that I need to patch up before I can activate them again.

News: Modifying C# code to deal with new tables...
Posted by: Admin on Monday, December 27, 2004 - 10:57 PM
Site News I'm in the process of modifying my database entry tool. The changes will allow me to enter the quantity of each token I own. In general, if I have multiples of a token, I am willing to trade it. Once I have finished these changes (hopefully tomorrow), I will start the tedious process of entering the duplicate token information into the database. At that point, all of the tokens I am willing to trade will appear online.

News: tokens for trade implemented
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 - 11:34 PM
Site News I modified my database and PHP scripts so that if I have a particular token available for trade, it is indicated on the individual token page. For example, MO430F is currently available for trade, while NY630Ld is not.

Now I have to enter all of my duplicates into my database. Once I do, all of this information will be available online. Once I get more of this information entered, I will add a link to easily display all of the tokens I have for trade.

Oh yeah, I now have 770 tokens online!!!

Stay tuned - the best is still yet to come!

News: 446 tokens online

Site News So, what's new...

I now have 446 tokens online!

I started reading The Shellcoder's Handbook, PHP and MySQL Web Development, Exploiting Software: How to Break Code, and just finished reading Hacking: The Art of Exploitation.

My boss has put us all on mandatory technical support shifts. I was originally the primary TS (Technical Support) contact on Mondays from 2pm until 8pm, and the TS alternate on Thursdays from 8am until 2pm. All of the women I work with have 'family obligations' which prohibit them from working at night, so my boss swapped their shifts with mine. So I am now stuck with 2 evening shifts working until 8pm. Apparently my family life is less important than that of my co-workers.

Oh well, I suppose it is time to keep options open. If anyone knows of any companies in southern New Hampshire that are looking for software developers, please email my friend.

News: 410 tokens online
Posted by: Admin on Monday, October 25, 2004 - 11:47 PM
Site News 410 tokens online.

I'm back from the big group hug down in Bethesda, Maryland. On Thursday, we met with most of the team, had dinner at Ri Ra's, then off for a quick drink at the Barking Dog.

Friday was more meetings, then off to Baltimore, MD for a quick trip home to Manchester, NH. There was a little mixup, and someone put my friend Jon's luggage into the shuttle that we took to the airport. Unfortunately, Jon was not flying home. So, we brought his luggage back to New Hampshire, and mailed it back to him this morning. As if 'losing' his luggage (which contained his laptop) wasn't bad enough, Jon dropped his cell phone into the sewer when getting into a cab to take him back to the train station. (I don't mean to tell your life story Jon, I just somehow think it is funny that someone had a worse time in Maryland than I did). Lets all just keep our fingers crossed for Jon this Thursday when he goes out on his hot date (hopefully things will go better on your date than on this Maryland trip!!!).

OK, enough for tonight. Now back to my Scotch, and James Taylor.

I have to head down to Bethesda, Maryland on Thursday morning to visit my new company OPNET, so I won't have any updates for a few days.

News: Poker, Bubblehockey, Acquisition
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, October 06, 2004 - 11:12 PM
Site News So, the Hold 'Em tournament trophy is still in the Baron household. I'll go back to defend my title next month.

I forgot to mention yesterday, that my co-worker Jeff actually beat me in Bubble Hockey yesterday!!! This was probably the third time ever I lost to this chump. Of course, I redeemed my title today by kicking his butt 5 to 0.

As of about 3pm this afternoon, the acquisition is officially complete.

Hopefully, I'll get to real updates for the website tomorrow.

News: 253 Tokens online
Posted by: Admin on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 10:24 PM
Site News I added another 25 new tokens for Missouri and Minnesota.

I spent a few hours working on Appendix A for my NONDISCLOSURE, NONCOMPETE, NONSOLICITATION, AND OWNERSHIP OF INVENTIONS AGREEMENT. We had some OPNET HR people come and visit us today. Unfortunately, they did not have any of the information that I was really looking forward to - namely, my title, my salary, the amount of vacaction I get at the OPNET, when I can start contributing to the Employee Stock Purchase Plan, what the vesting schedule is (i.e. do my 4 and 1/2 years at Altaworks count as years at OPNET for vesting purposes), when I can start contributing to the OPNET 401k (so I can take advantage of the employer matching), etc.

I started listening to the audio book The Terminal Man by Michael Crichton while cropping tokens. I also started reading The Shellcoder's Handbook. Wow - that is a really good book - strongly recommended if you are interested in finding and exploiting security holes in software.

Non-disclosure, non-compete, and other bullshit..
Posted by: Admin on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 08:58 PM
Site News So, as you all know, my company is being acquired by OPNET Tecnologies, Inc. (OPNT). Yesterday evening we were told to sign a NONDISCLOSURE, NONCOMPETE, NONSOLICITATION, AND OWNERSHIP OF INVENTIONS AGREEMENT. We were given a choice. Sign the document, or you no longer have a job. Period. I'm talking to a lawyer tomorrow at 1:00pm. We'll see how that goes. Everyone I talk to says to just sign the document, as there is no company that can deny you the right to work. Besides, there is no jury in the world that will convict me of putting food on my table.

This whole acquisition is not giving me the 'warm and fuzzy' I expected. OPNET is sending their HR department up to Nashua, New Hampshire to pay us a visit on Monday. That should be fun.

I've been too busy to make any real updates to the site. Tomorrow is Ritchie's football game, and now I need to I need to go watch those two monkeys. Hopefully I'll get to real updates this weekend.

News: Yawn...
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 - 11:05 PM
Site News My allergies have been acting up - thus no updates in a while.

Still scanning in my next batch of tokens. I put about 20 tokens into 2x2 folders tonight. Still need to crop the images, and enter the data into the database before they will be online.

Headed up to Maine this past weekend to help my mom set up her new Dell. Of course, what trip to Maine would be complete without a stop by Gritty McDuff's (sorry, no mini kegs of Black Fly this time).

Posted by: Admin on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 09:58 PM
Site News I scanned another 60 tokens today. I still need to crop them, and enter all of the data into the database.

I started listening to the audio book Prey by Michael Crichton, which I took out of the library this afternoon. It is an excellent book so far.

News: Back From Chicago
Posted by: Admin on Monday, September 20, 2004 - 10:01 PM
Site News So, I am back from Chicago. It was a wonderful trip. Chicago is really a cool city. During my weekend trip, I managed to visit the Lincoln Park Zoo, go to the top of the Sears Tower, take a wonderful Architectural River Cruise, visit Millennium Park and Navy Pier, and of course, ride the "El" (unfortunately, they no longer use tokens). All in all, it was a beautiful city, and I can't wait to go back.

I did acquire 3 new tokens from New York City this past week. None of which are transporation tokens however. Hopefully, I'll get around to updating the site tomorrow.

My friend Jim made me a cool new Site Logo! I still need to clean up the images a little... Let me know what you think!

Trying to deal with getting everything ready for my trip to Chicago tomorrow morning, so no updates to the website until Sunday or Monday!

News: Acquisition & tokens...
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 - 09:47 PM
Site News So, as you all know by now, my company, Altaworks is being acquired by a company called OPNET for the bargain price of $3.25 million. The bad news is that my options are worthless. The good news is that I still have a job (or so I am told).

I scanned in another 30 tokens. I'll try to crop them, and enter all of the data tomorrow. Actually, tomorrow is poker night, so I probably won't really get to it until Thursday.

News: company being acquired - 228 tokens online
Posted by: Admin on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 10:22 PM
Site News I received a nice letter from my current employer stating that we are being acquired by a company called OPNET. It was a nice letter telling me the stock options that I've spent the past 4 1/2 years working my butt off for are worthless. The good news however, is that I still have a job, and with any luck, will continue to get paid. I'll have to give the new company a shot, and see how everything works out.

I'm up to 228 tokens online. I need to scan more tokens, as I have entered all of the data for the tokens I have scanned thus far.

My Black Fly Stout is almost gone. I am going to be in Chicago this coming weekend, so I won't have time to update the site, nor drive to Maine to get more stout.

Site modifications - 210 Tokens Online
Posted by: Admin on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 02:06 AM
Site News 210 Tokens online. I made a few minor modifications to the Token display module - now displays the number of tokens per state on the individual state. I also fixed the display of the token prices, so it will display prices like $1.50 rather than $1.5.

Posted by: Admin on Saturday, September 11, 2004 - 09:03 PM
Site News I cropped another 40 tokens today. About 172 tokens online. I'll enter more data into the database tomorrow. I also created a favicon.ico, which for some reason is not displaying correctly under all browsers. I'll try to debug that one tomorrow.

News: Dynamic Token Thumbnails
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, September 07, 2004 - 11:10 PM
Site News I modified by php scripts to generate token thumbnails dynamically. If a thumbnail for a token does not exist, it is created on the fly. You should see a significant increase in the download speed of the images for each individual token. Image sizes are reduced from around 50-80K to 4-6K. Thus, the inital token pages should download at least 10 or 20 times faster. If thumbnails have to be created, the page takes about .2 seconds to load. If a thumbnail already exists (i.e. someone alread viewed that token), the page should load in less that 0.10 seconds. You can also now click on the token thumbnail for a high-resolution token.

I received a few dozen tokens in the mail today - about 20 of which I did not have. I'll try to scan them in soon. Like I said, this is a very SLOW and TEDIOUS process. I'm planning on modifying my database schema soon to reflect the quantity of each token. This way you know which tokens I am willing to trade. I am always interested in trading my duplicate tokens for tokens I don't have.

While in Maine this past weekend, we picked up a mini-keg of Gritty's Black Fly Stout. Wow - that's good stuff. Programming while intoxicated - fun.

Posted by: Admin on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 11:31 PM
Site News I finished my database entry application. (Well, it is not really finished - it needs some more work on the UI - but it is functional!) I entered another 20 tokens. I now have 100 online! I just acquired about another two dozen tokens as well.

News: Database entry tool almost complete
Posted by: Admin on Thursday, September 02, 2004 - 11:34 PM
Site News My database entry tool is almost complete. Another hour or so, then I'll send it off to 'QA'...;-) Unfortunately, I don't think I will have time to finish it until next week sometime. Once it is complete, I will be able to enter the token data much quicker, and thus update the site quicker.

I lost in our monthly poker tournament, and thus had to relinquish my trophy to the winner. Fortunately, the winner was my little brother. So at least the trophy is still in the family.

My eye doctor said that my eye sight is fine, so the fact that everything is blurry either means I am tired or drunk. Most likely it is a combination of the two - which means it is time for bed.

News: added a few new tokens online, still working on the database entry Tool
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 - 11:15 PM
Site News I added a few more tokens into my database (and thus they are available for viewing online). I also worked on my C# database entry tool. I can now read/write data to each of the tables in my database, and just need to work on the UI.

It really does not make any sense for me to be writing this in C# anyway. I am going to have to eventually write it in php, so that I will be able to enter all of this data from the web. I suppose this is all just to keep my skills polished anyway.

News: New scans available online
Posted by: Admin on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 - 11:30 PM
Site News I scanned in some more tokens from Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, and Massachusetts. I listened to the audio book 'Relic' by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child while doing the cropping. I am not sure which was more boring - cropping/scanning tokens, or listening to 'Relic'.

News: More tokens online, Database entry application almost done...
Posted by: Admin on Thursday, August 19, 2004 - 11:16 PM
Site News I cropped a bunch of tokens tonight - California should be all done. I've also made some progress on my database entry application. Once I have some data in the database, I should be able to start working on the php scripts to actually display the data on the site. This is such a slow and tedious process - at this rate, I won't be done until 2006!!!

Once it is complete, I will be able to (more easily) enter all of the token information into the database. I haven't even started on the PHP code to actually display the information on the website.

None of the tokens have been touched up yet, so everything looks quite rough. Browse through the pictures so far, and let me know what you think.

I've started entering all of the data into the database, and will write the actual php code to access the database probably sometime next week.

News: HD Crash tonight...
Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 01:02 AM
Site News So my Western Digital 250 Gig Hard Drive decided to kick the bucket tonight. All of a sudden I was getting bad blocks. Luckily, I had nothing 'important' on that drive. I spent a few hours screwing with the machine, replacing the drive, restoring files, etc. I hate hardware problems. Well, at least now I have an excuse to go buy a new Hard Drive! It must be time for a beer.

Posted by: Admin on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - 01:45 AM
Site News I changed the port that my webserver was running on from the standard http port (80) to port 8080. I only did this because of the stupid script kiddies like 24.62.134.238 (h0010b55096b3.ne.client2.attbi.com) and 24.214.103.98 (user-24-214-103-98.knology.net), who are too stupid to probe the machine before running their stupid scripts to try to hack in. Hopefully, this change will prevent these types of losers from wasting my time reading through error logs...

Site News So I finally registered the domain names exonumist.com and vecturist.com, and have begun putting my token collection online. As of now, the FAQ, Members List, Search, Stats and News should be working. Recommending Us is not working - I am having some DNS issues, and all of the emails are remaining Queued up. I am currently working on this. In theory, the Forums work, although, since the email feature is broken, people will not be able to register, and thus will be unable to post.
